ASTANA. March 15. KAZINFORM. Human Rights Commissioner of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov has received Regional Representative/ Regional Coordinator for Central Asia at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees Saber Azam in Astana today; Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakh Ombudsman's Office.

A. Shakirov informed S. Azam of the priority directions of the state's activity in the sphere of protection of refugees in Kazakhstan, process of implementation of international standards in the national legislation in this sphere.

The UN Representative appraised the country's work and noted that Kazakhstan's Law "On refugees" would give favorable impulse to the provision of rights of persons in this category.

The parties discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation between the national human rights institution and the UNHCR.
