05 Martha 2010, 18:56 CSTO positive on UN Resolution "On cooperation between UN and CSTO" MOSCOW. March 5. KAZINFORM /Narymbek Ismagulov/ The Permanent Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization welcomes the Resolution of the UN General Assembly "On cooperation between the UN and the CSTO" adopted at its 64th session. "Secretary General of the CSTO Nikolay Bordyuzha said the CSTO Permanent Council welcomed the Resolution adopted at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly "On cooperation between the UN and the CSTO", a press release of the CSTO reads. The CSTO Secretariat considers adoption of this document quite important. The Resolution provides a legal framework for further interaction between the UN and the CSTO. The latter has been an observer organization in the UN General Assembly since 2004. The document emphasizes enhancement of the role of the CSTO in solution of international security problems. "The CSTO's activity on development of regional cooperation in such spheres like countering terrorism, fight with illegal drug and weapons traffic, countering organized transnational crime, human trafficking, and struggle against natural and man-made disasters fully meet the objectives solved by the UN", N. Bordyuzha said. The document also appeals the UN specialized bodies - the Department for Political Affairs, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Counterterrorism Committee and its Executive Directorate are to cooperate and establish direct contacts with the CSTO for joint implementation of the programs. N. Bordyuzha is confident that expansion of cooperation of the CSTO with the UN will promote realization of the aims and tasks of the world community in solution of international security problems and countering new challenges and threats.
