UN Secretary-General called on Astana Economic Forum to help build a new world

ASTANA. May 23. KAZINFORM - Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon called on the international community to use the platform of VI Astana Economic Forum as an opportunity to build a new world. Message from UN Secretary-General has been read out at the opening of the AEF by his Deputy for Economic and Social Affairs U.Hunbo.

"You are gathering during the ongoing global economic uncertainty. Widespread unemployment, growing inequalrity, fragility of the banking and sovereign debt problems threaten the modest growth of economic recovery. Recent experience and estimates have shown that there is need to remain cooperated in order to reduce the vulnerability of international financial markets and the risks of a future crisis, " the statement reads.

Secretary Genaral said the international community should take renewed effort to support economic recovery and the creation of decent jobs, especially for women and the youth. He stressed that the global economic governance structure should also better reflect the voice of developing countries in the global economy.

"There are only less than one thousand days before the deadline for the largest and most successful trend in the fight against poverty - namely, the Millennium Development Goals. Now is the time to progress and accelerated efforts to complete all the Millennium Development Goals. At the same time the UN support the states in their efforts to define an agenda after 2015 as a whole range of new objectives for sustainable development. The definition and implementation of such a framework will require your expertise and participation. I encourage you to use this forum as an opportunity to help us build the world that we want.
