Third Islamic Conference of Health Ministers kicks off in Astana

TANA. September 29. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ III Conference of OIC Health Ministers began its work at the Astana Palace of Independence on Thursday.

The event is held as part of Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

Deputy head of the Kazakhstan Presidential Administration Maulen Ashimbayev, Kazakh Vice Prime Minister Yerbol Orynbayev, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu are expected to attend the conference. In total, the event gathered more than 400 participants from 57 OIC member states as well as a range of international organizations.

It is planned to discuss the Draft Strategic Health Program of Action of the OIC Member States for 2012-2022. A special interactive session on reducing child mortality and improving maternal health will be held. At its conclusion the Conference will adopt Astana Declaration and a number of resolutions for boosting the OIC cooperation in the sphere of healthcare.
