ASTANA. February 3. KAZINFORM "I have closely watched the recent events in Kazakhstan regarding the prolongation of the President's powers till 2020 and canceling the elections", Kazinform refers to the website of the UK Mission to the United Nations citing British Minister of State for European Affairs David Lidington.

"In light of rejection of the referendum by the country's Constitutional Council, I welcome the initiative announced by President N. Nazarbayev on holding snap presidential elections till the end of this year. This is an important reaffirmation of Kazakhstan's commitment to the democratic course. The Kazakh Government can reckon on our full support in conduction of the elctions in accordance with the international standards", he said.
