Mangystau rgn mulls Zhanaozen renaming into Beket-ata
"It is nice to see that not only people of Zhanaozen but also from other settlements get involved. They express their opinion and discuss the suggestion. If the majority supports the idea, it will be the genuine manifestation of democracy. But, to my thinking, this problem should be solved without haste," Gulmira Kalmuratova, head of the Employment and Social Programs Coordination Department, said.
She stressed that thanks to the local authorities the town throughout its history was the driving force determining the development of the whole Mangystau region. "Development of the town continued even after the 1989 events, and mass urbanization in 1990s. That is why it is very important to give the town a new impetus," G.Kalmuratova thinks.
"It is necessary to make steps in all directions and solve relevant problems of the town of oil industry workers. If the population supports the idea of renaming, it is worth speculating on," she believes.
